Asinara Island


Asinara was the hardest prison farm in Italy: in  the maximum security prison of Fornelli, besides the most dangerous prisoners, mafia members and Camorrists were jailed. In 1997 the island were “freed” from this state of prison and became a National Park: the aura of charm and mystery is now a desire to explore those place that were forbidden before.

 

 

 

 

As far as it concerns the naturalistic heritage, we can mention, among the typical flora, the thorny cornflower (Centaurea Horrida),growing from Asinara to the promontory of Capo Caccia; regarding to animals, the most famous are the mouflons, the Corsican seagull and the albino donkeys.
